Star Speedway PASS tour event on
6/29/02 by Lee Truman - Third Mile Media |
Channell One Video won the Golden Wheel Award in the "Promotional
Video" category with their 30 second commercial for RaceVideo.com.
The spot features lots of racing action, but has no voice over. This
unique concept focuses all the attention to the footage, with
powerful music driving the emotions to the finish. It ends with the
name RaceVideo.com and a tag line, superimposed over a plain black
background with silence. The concept proved effective as "hits" have
increased significantly on the web site since the spot started
airing.
However, what meant the most to Channell and his crew, was the "Best
Made-For-Television Production" category. Competing in the "short
form" (half hour or less), with the episode shot at Lee USA
Speedway, their television series "RaceTime" took home the Golden
Wheel.
Upon getting news of the results, Channell One Video shut down for
two days, to celebrate with a huge victory party. The series host,
Peter Falconi, who has been involved with all facets of racing since
his childhood, and been part of many radio and television
productions, summed up his feelings by saying, "It's incredible,
it's definitely the highlight of my career. "
New England's leading racing newspaper, Speedway Scene, was a major
sponsor for the series last year. Publisher/editor Val LeSieur feels
part of the show's success comes from featuring local drivers, teams
and tracks. "That's the heart of racing, and since we feel it's a
valuable way to reach race fans, we've signed on again for the
upcoming season. Winning the Golden Wheel is just icing on the
cake."
